Effective January 2013, the FCC (federal communications commission) has mandated that all public safety radios be migrated from the current broad banded radio system to a narrow banded radio system. EMMCO West regional public safety answering points (PSAP) are preparing to implement the transition within their counties, sometime in 2012.

The following is a status report of anticipated rebanding of EMS radio systems by county:

Clarion County                               Spring 2012

Crawford County                            September 2012

Erie County                                     Fall 2012

Forest County                                 Fall 2012

Mercer County                               Spring 2012

Venango County                             Fall 2012

Warren County                               July 2012

EMS agencies should consult with their county PSAP centers, as to when EMS system communications will be switched over to the narrowband.  Incorrect selection of radio settings can result in poor communications with PSAP or hospitals.
