Stanley is a Captain with Reedy Creek Fire and EMS in Orlando Florida. Reedy Creek is the department that responds to all EMS calls at the Walt Disney World Resorts. He has been involved with EMS for over 22 years and with Reedy Creek for the last 5 years. Captain Paynter serves as the MARC program coordinator for the theme park. This unique program allows rapid response within the parks using alternate forms of transportation.
Randy has contributed to numerous EMS journal publications, books, and instructor resource materials as well as authored several works on these topics. He is active as a street level and flight paramedic, and remains acclimated to the current needs, trends, and outcomes of modern day EMS and critical care transport provision. He is currently the Director of the Emergency Medical Technology Program at Youngstown State University where he is also an instructor in the Department of Health Professions. He has over 20 years combined experience in the delivery of pre-hospital medicine, critical care transport/flight medicine, and emergency education.

Rich is the program coordinator for the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team for Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Throughout his career, he has worked as a volunteer, paramedic, crew chief, and field supervisor. He started the Pittsburgh/Allegheny County CISM program after years of peer counseling with veterans groups and is now a trainer for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. Mr. Boland was one of the original 40 employees of the City of Pittsburgh EMS.

Dave has over twenty-eight years of experience in Emergency Services. He has functioned in many roles during his career from volunteer EMT to Career EMS Chief. Dave’s involvement includes IAFC, NFPA, NAEMT, and NAEMSE, along with several state-level organizations. He is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and holds a Bachelors Degree in Safety Engineering.

Dr. Baker is the Director of the Mercy Neurovascular Center at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. He attended the University of California Berkley and received a PhD in Neurobiology and Electrical Engineering. Today Dr. Baker is a consultant for companies such as General Electric and Seimens Medical Systems helping to improve medical equipment that in turn improves patient care and patient outcomes.

Dr. Nick Colovos has over 15 of experience in the emergency medical field. Currently, he serves as the medical director for EMS at Allegheny General Hospital and Med Express in Adams Township PA. He is actively involved with the paramedic training program at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) where he is the Medical Director for the program. A member of PA DMAT2 and SMR team of Indiana County, he maintains certifications in ACLS, PALS and BCLS. Dr. Colovos was honorably discharged from the United States Navy where he served in Honduras and Iraq.

Dr. Corcos is the Academic Chief of General Surgery and the Assistant Director of Trauma Services at UPMC Mercy. He began his career in 1987 focusing on surgery and trauma. He has done extensive research on trauma related injuries. Other positions he holds at UPMC Mercy include Deputy Chief of the Division of Multisystem Trauma, Head of Surgical Critical Care and the Trauma Program Liaison to Transfer and Communication Center. In his spare time Dr. Corcos finds time to review articles for the Journal of Trauma

Dr. Corsetti is the Assistant Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Director of Pre Hospital Services at UPMC Northwest Medical Center in Seneca, PA. Jeff became involved in EMS in 1988 when he served as an EMT/ Dispatcher for Medic Rescue in Beaver Falls, PA. He later became a flight physician with Life Flight at Allegheny General Hospital before his role of Emergency Physician. Today Dr. Corsetti serves as the medical director for all EMS services in Venango County.

With over 25 years of experience Dave received his initial EMT certification in 1979 and later became a paramedic Certification since 1986, He has been active in the Fire / EMS service where he spent 15 years as a officer in the Albion Volunteer Fire department, including 9 years as Fire Chief and 2 as Assistant Chief. He also spent 2 years as a line officer in the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department. Dave previously served as the Assistant Director of the West County Paramedic Association. Currently he is the Operations Supervisor for EmergyCare, Inc.

Bill has been a member of the General Motors Legal Staff since 1989 and is based in Oshawa, Ontario. He is currently the Manager of Product and Warranty Litigation, and was previously the Product Expert for the Legal Department. Bill is responsible for the investigation and inspection of vehicle product allegations for GMCL. This also includes being a witness at trial, as well as testifying for the Crown in criminal matters. He has also been actively involved in the training of Fire Rescue personnel since 1994 in extrication procedures with new models and working around airbags with “The Jaws of Life.” Training has also been provided to various Police agencies on the Event Data Recorders for vehicle crash reconstruction. Bill is also the Vice Chair of the Transportation Emergency Rescue Committee – Canada, which is responsible for establishing regional vehicle extrication challenges, as well as vehicle entrapment rescue training and education across Canada.

Mary Ann earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Policy and an Associates Degree in Arts and Sciences from Penn State University in York PA. She later graduated from her local Vo-Tech school with a degree as an LPN. She began her EMS career in 1982 with Memorial Hospital in York PA. In 1988 she became an EMT instructor. Currently Mary Ann is the Operations Coordinator with the PA Department of Health Bureau of EMS and an adjunct instructor with Harrisburg Area Community College.

Michelle started her EMS career in1997 with Meadville Ambulance Service. She went on to become a paramedic in 1998. Currently she holds certifications as an EMT Instructor, CPR Instructor, CPR Instructor Trainer, and Rope Rescue. In addition she is a member of the EMMCO West CISM team and is certified in CISM basic and peer support. In her spare time she is the CTC coordinator for Cambridge Springs Area Volunteer Ambulance Service. Michelle began her search and rescue career in 2002 with her partner Jordon. Today her new partner Broadway continues the tradition as a certified search and rescue dog.
Jeff Jackson is the fire chief with Hempfield Volunteer Fire Department in Mercer County. He has been an active dog handler with CAESAR for eight years. He has an extensive background in wilderness survival and search and rescue management. Harley is an eight-year-old German shepherd who has been a member of CAESAR since she was 9 weeks old. She has participated in over 100 missions with many finds. She is certified in human remains detections, both land and water, air scenting and trailing.

Don began his EMS career in 1989. He has over 18 years of service in emergency services. Currently he serves as the Fire Chief for Kuhl Hose Fire Department in Erie County. He is a flight medic for Life Star in Erie PA and a Team Leader for EmergyCare ambulance in Erie. During his career Don has responded to many multiple car accidents in the Erie County area.


J.R. has more than 25 years of experience as an EMS provider, administrator and firefighter. He founded the consulting firm in 1982 and has provided consulting services and seminars to hundreds of EMS and Fire Department organizations, hospitals and municipalities, across the nation. During his career, Mr. Henry has become well known as an expert in the area of ambulance service operations, management and reimbursement related issues. In addition to his administrative and consulting activities, Mr. Henry is a former Paramedic and Vehicle Rescue Technician. He is a life member of the West View Volunteer Fire Department. He holds membership in numerous other local, state and national EMS organizations. J.R. also currently serves as President of the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council and Vice President of the Allegheny County EMS Council.

Eric has been involved in EMS in Crawford County for more than 15 years. During his career he has served both paid and volunteer EMS services. Currently he is the Owner/Director of Operations for Meadville Area Ambulance Service. During his EMS career he has instructed several EMS classes. Eric remains active with the Volunteer EMS Alliance of Crawford County (VEMSACC). Eric also serves as part of the EMMCO West Strike Team.

Dr. Jones is the Director of Emergency Services at St. Vincent Health Systems in Erie PA. Prior to his appointment last year he served as the Assistant Director for 5 years. Dr. Jones is the Medical Director for EmergyCare Ambulance and Life Star Aero medical Services in Erie. In 1996 he was elected as the Regional Medical Director for the EMMCO West region. He stepped down in 2002, but continues to serve on the regional medical advisory committee (RMAC) as a committee member.

In 2003 Dr. Kupas assumed the role of Commonwealth EMS Medical Director. He currently serves as an Associate in Emergency Medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in Wilkes- Barre, PA. Dr. Kupas is no stranger to EMS. He began his medical career as an ambulance attendant with the Lower Kiski Area Ambulance Service. He later served as an EMT and a Paramedic. During that time he was named Paramedic Crew Chief for Citizen’s Ambulance in Indiana, PA. After finishing medical school, Dr. Kupas continued his EMS career as a flight physician. Today he is the Medical Director for Danville Ambulance Service and the Director of the Emergency Medical Residency Program at Geisinger Health Systems.

Chris is a paramedic and a field training officer with EmergyCare in Erie PA with over 18 years of experience.
Linda is an EMT at EmergyCare with over 5 years of experience. She has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology.

Jim has been involved in EMS for about 9 years starting as a volunteer EMT and later as a paid and volunteer Paramedic. Currently he is the CQI and Education Coordinator for Alle-Kiski Medical Center and very active in teaching all levels of CPR as well as ACLS, PALS, EMT and paramedic classes. He earned a bachelor of science Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Emergency Medicine in 2005.

David Lindell holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and has been caring for patients in the out-of-hospital environment since 1971. A paramedic for 33 years and an EMS instructor since 1977, he started his ALS practice with Freedom House Ambulance in Pittsburgh and was in the first class of paramedics starting the City of Pittsburgh EMS. Mr. Lindell has served in the eastern part of the state in various capacities working with Philadelphia Fire Department EMS and services/training organizations in Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties. A flight medic for two different programs during his career he returned to Pittsburgh as an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh. He now serves as the EMS Education Specialist for UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh and practices clinically at Penn Hills EMS.

As an EMS coordinator at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Rick’s outreach efforts serve as a liaison to regional area hospitals, EMS services and STAT MedEvac. In addition, he is also responsible for electronic data collection and database management for departmental and hospital strategic planning for regional hospitals and EMS service relations. Mr. Lippert serves as a regional faculty resource for PALS, ACLS and BCLS. He maintains instructor status in the following additional areas: EMT, Paramedic, P.E.P.P., I.T.L.S., and is a Car Seat Technician Instructor. He is also an active member of Pittsburgh’s Critical Incident Stress Management Team with more than ten years of experience and is also a certified Fire Fighter I. Additionally, Mr. Lippert has served as Board Member for a not-for-profit ambulance service in Pennsylvania and as a member of City Council oversaw Public Safety both for Fire and EMS.

While pursing his undergraduate degrees at Penn State, Dr. Malaspina entered the medical field as an orderly and was among the first EMTs certified in Pennsylvania. He then served as a surgical Physicians Assistant for 10 years before entering medical school at Temple. Since being recruited to Hamot Medical Center, Dr. Malaspina has practiced General and Trauma surgery as a member of Great Lakes Surgical Specialists and Hamot Shock Trauma

Mr. McClincy is the Executive Director for EMMCO West, Inc.. He has been employed by EMMCO West since 1987. He possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from IUP and a Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration from Gannon University. Bill is the author of the textbook “Instructional Methods in Emergency Services” and has written numerous trade journal articles. Mr. McClincy is a PA certified EMT and EMT Instructor trainer



Joe is the Chairperson and Professor for the Department of Health Professions at Youngstown State University. Joe started his EMS career with Gold Cross Ambulance in Youngstown Ohio. In1995 Gold Cross was bought out by Rural Metro Ambulance. Joe continues to run as a paramedic in the field. Joe has worked extensively with the US Department of Transportation to develop the curriculum for all levels of EMS training. He is a member of the National Association of EMTs and a National Registry of EMTs representative. Joe has authored dozens of textbooks on EMS and published numerous articles.

Dr. Mossesso is the Medical Director of the Pre Hospital Care Team and the Medical director for the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association (formerly National Center for Early Defibrillation) at UPMC. He is also the national Medical Director for the Advanced Medical Life Support Course. Throughout his career, Dr. Mosesso has been active as a volunteer, paramedic, administrator, teacher, and researcher in the prehospital field. He chaired the the American Heart Association (AHA) Allegheny Division's Operation Heartbeat program and now serves on the national AHA Basic Life Support committee and AED Task Force. Recent research efforts have included serving as the principal investigator for the Pittsburgh site of the Public Access Defibrillation Trial and currently for the ASPIRE Trial which is evaluating a mechanical CPR device.

Frank began his emergency services career as a volunteer fireman with Upland Fire Co. and an ambulance attendant with Franklin Ambulance in his hometown of Chester, PA. In the 1970's Frank helped to pioneer the development of educational programs for EMTs, Paramedics and ER Nurses. A recognized leader in Emergency Medical Services System development, he directed the establishment of the EMS program in Delaware County and was the first Chief of EMS in the City of Chester – the first such program in Northeastern US. Frank was also very instrumental in the development of statewide PA EMS initiatives and innovations. He was a founding member of several leading professional associations and organizations: the Emergency Nurses Association (where he served on the first board of directors), the American Trauma Society, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, the National EMS Educators Association, and the PA Emergency Health Services Council (where he also served on the first board of directors). He’s also a member of the World Association for Emergency and Disaster Medicine, the Marine Section of the National Safety Council and the National Nurses in Business Association (NNBA). In addition to continued active participation in many of these same organizations, Frank now serves on the Board of the James O. Page Foundation and Board of Trustees of the National EMS Museum. Currently Frank serves as the executive director for Emergency Training Xcellence.

Dr. Risavi is the EMMCO West Regional Medical Director and has held that position since June 2001. Brian began his medical career in the Mercer County area as an EMT with Hempfield Volunteer Fire Department in 1981. He later became a paramedic and continued to serve the Mercer County Area. Currently he is the medical director for McGonigle Ambulance and Grove City Life Rescue Squad in Mercer County. He is currently an attending physician at Hamot Hospital in Erie as well as the Program Director of the Emergency Medical Residency Program at Hamot Hospital in Erie. He is also an adjunct instructor for the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and a state ITLS medical director.

Governor Ed Rendell formally approved Joseph W. Schmider as Pennsylvania’s Emergency Medical Services Director on January 8, 2005. Joe served as Acting Director for 6 months, and previously as Program Manager within the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services for 2 years. Joe was the Regional EMS Director for Bucks County for 10 years before accepting a position with the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Joe has served emergency services as a Firefighter with the Warminster Fire Department and a Firefighter/EMT with Dublin Fire Company and Ambulance since 1979. Joe served as Squad Chief for Dublin EMS for 10 years, and trained/certified as a Firefighter, EMT, EMT-Instructor, a HazMat Technician, Rescue Technician, and formerly EMA Director for Bedminster Township
Josh is a paramedic with Medical Rescue Team South Authority in the Pittsburgh Area. He has over 16 years of experience in EMS and is currently certified as a child passenger safety technician. After responding to a cardiac arrest involving a 14-year-old boy, Josh has dedicated himself to understanding and researching risky behaviors of teenagers.
